Shawn’s intimate understanding of how different materials behave and what their individual strengths and limitations are – deeply influences his design solutions.

Shawn is naturally curious about everything and is always creating. One could say that Shawn is obsessed with how things work. In addition to his passion for telling stories through architectural design, Shawn is also a furniture designer, motorcycle fabricator and metal fabricator and spends much of his “down time” working directly with raw materials in his fabrication workshop. Shawn’s intimate understanding of how different materials behave and what their individual strengths and limitations are – deeply influences his design solutions. To Shawn, practicing “personal creativity” makes you a better designer and can help you “see beyond what’s in front of you, so you can think more about what’s next.”Significant projects where Shawn has played a major design role include Opera Memphis; FedEx World Headquarters; the two Wind Creek Casino and Hotel properties in Atmore and Wetumpka, Alabama; the Sycuan Casino Resort Hotel expansion in San Diego, California; and at multiple properties for the Ho-Chunk Nation in Wisconsin. Shawn has won four national and local AIA Design Awards for his design of Guggenheim Museum’s Art of the Motorcycle Touring Exhibit in Orlando, Florida and Memphis, Tennessee.
