Mark Weaver, FAIA - Architecture & Design

Mark’s commitment to integrating art and architecture and his conviction to relating context, culture and history through meaningful details has influenced every area of the firm’s practice for the past 35 years.

Through Mark’s design leadership, the firm has successfully parlayed its design passions to the national stage as represented by major hospitality and resort projects that have been widely recognized by industry awards and national publications. In addition to 40 regional, state, and local AIA design awards, Weaver’s work has been recognized with 75 regional project awards from the design and building industry and 50 awards from specific market sectors including hospitality and corporate workplace. His work appears in national journals including Architecture, Interior Design, and Urban Land, and has been published in Time, Southern Living, The Wall Street Journal, and The Washington Post. A diligent advocate devoted to elevating an interactive design dialogue within the profession, Mark has brought focus to design in his leadership roles for AIA at both state and local levels. He has shared his knowledge by participating on professional and academic design juries and has lectured at Universities and AIA regional conventions.


Tamara Goff, CPSM - Principal / Director of Communications & Brand Experience

A 15-time SMPS Marketing Communication Award-winner, Tamara applies creative marketing principles to help bring innovative client and employee engagement programs to life at HBG Design.

As Director of Communication and Brand Experience at HBG Design, Tamara is uniquely positioned to understand what sets her firm apart and how to demonstrate the firm’s competitive edge. While her primary responsibilities have include brand management, marketing communications, media relations and promotional strategies for winning new work, in recent years, she has shifted her focus from client pursuits to employee engagement and corporate communications. A 15-time SMPS Marketing Communication Award-winner, Tamara applies creative marketing principles to help bring innovative employee engagement programs to life at HBG Design. Tamara is a member of the firm’s Corporate Strategies Committee of HBG Design’s Board of Directors. She is also a Certified Professional Services Marketer (CPSM) from the Society for Marketing Professional Services (SMPS).


Rob Jurbergs, AIA - Principal / Architecture and Design

Rob is known for his expert ability to listen and absorb a client’s project vision, and translate inspirational elements into competitive and complex resort designs.

An experienced traveler and an artist at heart, Rob is sensitive to his client’s vision and how to shape the guest experience in ways that are both in keeping with the multiple layers of context and place, and relate at a personal level with the guest who experiences the space.

Rob’s project portfolio includes the “coastal modern” design of the Point Casino Hotel on the Kitsap Peninsula in Kingston, Washington and Winstar World Casino Resort, the largest casino in the world, which involved an extensive expansion and renovation project to elevate the property to a true resort experience. No matter the project size, Rob never wavers in his commitment to design excellence and continually receives high marks from HBG clients for his innovative ideas and expressive design solutions.


Kevin Burke, AIA, LEED AP - Senior Associate / Architecture and Design

As a Senior Architectural Designer in HBG Design’s San Diego office, Kevin is a great example of talent and professionalism equaling impact, on every project he touches and for the teams he engages. His focus and passion for hospitality design is inspiring.

As an award-winning, seasoned designer in the hospitality and entertainment design industry, Kevin brings a 19-year proven track record of designing, producing and managing team-oriented multi-million-dollar projects. No project is too small a challenge, and he has put his creative mark on project types ranging from master planning and hotel and resort design to venue design and interior renovations. Kevin’s passion for design extends into a deep understanding of casino and hotel operations and the business side of his clients' design investments.

With a personal mission to deliver great design, every day, he is equally noted for his willingness and eagerness to share his expertise with others.

For his work in the industry, he is the recipient of numerous AIA Design awards and American Gaming Association Casino Design Awards for Best Architectural & Interior Design; and he was honored with an ENR Top 20 Under 40, South West USA – Top Young Professionals Award in 2015.


Michael Ochoa, AIA, NCARB - Senior Associate / Project Management

HBG Design Senior Associate, Michael Ochoa is a calm, knowledgeable and well-respected Project Manager, with a skill for objective, empathetic listening and winning the confidence of his clients. With strong project management, organizational and communication skills, he offers an impressive portfolio leading successful hospitality and entertainment projects across the U.S.

Michael embodies one of the most important attributes of a true leader: the willingness to step out of your comfort zone. His evolution at HBG Design includes roles as project architect, assistant project manager and project manager, solidifying his role as design advocate.

Michael excels at mapping out successful project delivery strategies related to team communications, technology and schedule control and design to budget processes. He provides oversight of internal team members and consultant team members in the delivery of quality design/documentation packages and manages the work effort with a consistent focus on design advocacy and maintaining the client’s design vision throughout the project from kick-off to opening.


Ferran Espin, AIA - Senior Associate / Architecture and Design

As one of the firm's most accomplished architects, Ferran has played a key role in leading many of our largest and most complex entertainment and hospitality projects. He has a remarkable ability to convey intricate concepts and ideas straightforwardly, instilling confidence among his peers, clients, and consultant/contractor teams. He has earned the trust and admiration of HBG clients through his direct, composed communication and exceptional technical acumen.

Chris Devine, AIA - Senior Associate / Documentation & Specification Leader

As Senior Associate and Documentation and Specification Leader at HBG Design, Chris is known for his high work ethic, his wit, humor and humble demeanor, and his leadership in the transformation of the firm’s documentation standards.

Over his 20 years at HBG Design, Chris has focused his talents on advancing and communicating the firm’s documentation processes, ultimately being promoted as the firm’s dedicated documentation leader. Chris is a champion for process improvement and innovation of architectural detail design and documentation for all the firm’s projects. Chris and his documentation standards team have meticulously developed new practice tools and approaches that enhance the way HBG works by bringing clarity to highly complex processes. These enhancements and streamlining of standards have allowed our project teams to amplify their design collaboration and produce design drawings and Revit models more efficiently and more accurately, with a substantially increased level of quality.


Craig Conrad, AIA - Principal / Architecture

Craig thrives as a coordinator and facilitator, communicating with project consultants and Owner/Owner’s Representatives, providing our clients with a single point of contact for ease and clarity.

Craig has provided leadership and direction for the firm’s numerous hospitality and entertainment projects for over 30 years. He thrives as a coordinator and facilitator, communicating with project consultants and Owner/Owner’s Representatives, providing our clients with a single point of contact for ease and clarity. He possesses a vast understanding of gaming/ hotel/resort operations, which is seen in his extensive programming, planning and design work, and has become a wellrespected relationship-builder through his work on many innovative Native American and commercial, hospitality and gaming/entertainment projects.


Jeff Bailey, CPA, CGMA - Principal / Chief Financial Officer

Jeff Bailey has raised HBG Design’s fiscal leadership to an art form.

Jeff monitors and provides support to all the various components that impact the financial condition of the firm. This not only requires communicating historical performance, but also necessitates looking out over the horizon for signals that need to be communicated to various teams, shareholders, and Board of Directors. Jeff supports HBG Design by maintaining constant awareness of fiscal decision making and providing responsible management and guidance to firm project leaders related to revenue generation and staffing projections.


Dana Ramsey, CPSM - Senior Associate / Director of Marketing

With over 25 years of experience in marketing and communication and an 18+ year tenure at HBG Design, Dana has consistently demonstrated her unwavering dedication to helping HBG grow its presence in the national design industry.

As Director of Marketing at HBG Design, Dana instigates meaningful change, perpetually seeking ways that add value to HBG’s communication processes. An intuitive, empathetic listener, Dana brings an intense spirit of creativity, teamwork, and collaboration as she guides the marketing team in the development of high-impact promotional campaigns and effective project pursuit messaging.

With 10 national SMPS Marketing Communication Awards and 2 regional ADDY Awards under her belt, Dana’s strategic thinking and talent for creating compelling content and messaging have made a lasting impact on the firm. Dana strategizes, plans, manages, and executes marketing projects with relentless reliability. She is also a Certified Professional Services Marketer (CPSM) from the Society for Marketing Professional Services (SMPS).
